Day Shift follows a pool cleaner, Bud Jablonski, who is actually a vampire hunter and sells vampire fangs to find the money for his daughter’s school fees.
Day Shift Story and Summary
Bud Jablonski (Jamie Foxx) is like any other working American who serves as a pool cleaner for a company called Valley Pool Services and earns an honest living.
On one regular workday, he enters the house of an unsuspicious old lady and sets traps all across the place before shooting the old woman.
To our surprise, the woman stands up and turns into a vampire. A quick tussle follows before Bud puts the vampire woman to rest and pulls her fangs out – a money-making commodity in the world – as Bud, under the guise of a pool cleaner, hunts vampires for a living.
A change of clothes and some cleansing follow before Bud heads to pick up his daughter Paige (Zion Broadnax) from school.
When he drops his daughter at his separated wife Jocelyn’s (Meagan Good) place, he comes to know that his wife is planning to move to Florida as she’s not able to afford the bills and pay for Paige’s school. Bud tells her that he will find the money for the fees.
He, then, heads to Troy, a local businessman who buys certain items at a price from Bud. However, not finding the perfect deal, Bud instead decides to keep the fangs, exchanging his gun and shoes for some money.
On the other hand, Audrey San Fernando (Karla Souza), the owner of Valley Realty and a vampire, finds her old daughter, who was slain by Bud earlier. She orders her assistant Klaus (Oliver Masucci) to find the man responsible.
Audrey has formulated a sunscreen that helps vampires roam under the sun freely, and she has been buying properties all over the valley to fill them with vampires and restore the valley’s vampire population.
Bud contacts his pal Big J (Snoop Dogg) in hopes of getting in touch with the vampire hunting union, from which he was kicked out earlier.
Bud manages to find another lifeline as Mr. Seeger (Eric Lange), the man running the business at the union, gives him another chance to be part of the organization. But Seeger assigns Seth (Dave Franco) to keep an eye over Bud’s actions, in case he dares to violate the code again.
While Bud goes on a hunt for more fangs, Troy is paid a visit by Audrey who questions him about Bud before killing him. Meanwhile, Seth has a hard time coping with Bud’s vampire-killing lifestyle.
Realizing that Seth has been keeping records of Bud’s actions, Bud asks Seth for a couple of days till the weekend to sort out the money he requires for his daughter’s fees. Hence, upon finding Troy’s body, Seth complies and does not report the killing.
When Bud joins hands with two popular vampire hunters – the Nazarian Brothers – to make some quick bucks, they come across a vampire hive.

Day Shift Ending Explained
After Bud and his vampire hunter friends get done with the onslaught, Seth observes that all of the vampires were of different types that do not live together usually.
However, the group disperses as it’s time for Bud to take his daughter to a party, which gets interrupted when Audrey’s vampires attack Bud and his daughter.
Bud reaches home with Paige, only to end up at the mercy of Audrey, who has already turned Seth into a vampire. Rendering Bud unconscious, Audrey takes Jocelyn and Paige with her.
When Bud and Seth wake up, Seth briefly tries to eat Bud before getting a hold of his feelings.
Bud heads to Heather (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Bud’s new neighbor who was planted by Audrey, to find his family’s whereabouts.
Heather tells Bud that Audrey is chasing Bud because he killed her daughter, who was already 90 years old by the time Audrey converted her into a vampire. She further tells him that Audrey has been buying properties in the valley and housing vampires in them to make her own empire.
Heather and Seth – the friendly vampires – decide to lend a hand to Bud as he attacks Audrey’s lair to find his wife and daughter. Big J also joins the group after Seth texts him. As they enter the lair and kill hordes of vampires, Big J sacrifices himself in the pursuit.
Does Bud Jablonski kill Audrey and rescue his family?
Bud confronts Audrey in a final battle while Seth and Heather handle Klaus.
With some assistance from Jocelyn, Bud manages to decapitate Audrey. On the other hand, Seth and Heather successfully kill Klaus.
In the end, Mr. Seeger comes to the location in the hopes of kicking Bud out of the union for one final time for multiple code violations. But Seth helps Bud with tackling all the allegations through his adept knowledge of the code book.
Jocelyn, who has discovered her ex-husband’s real vocation, decides to pacify the relationship with Bud for the time being.
As Bud, who will now have the money to pay for Paige’s fees, drives his family home, Big J emerges from a manhole, promising more vampire hunting action with Big J and Bud Jablonski in the center.
