But the movie’s light-hearted nature does not imply a lack of twists. Like most coming-of-age films, Friday Night Plan may also leave behind a life lesson or two by the time the curtain falls on this story of brotherhood and self-discovery.

Friday Night Plan Summary

Getting ready for a football match that he’s mostly going to enjoy from the sidelines, Siddharth aka Sid (Babil Khan) tries convincing his mother against letting his brother Adi (Amrith Jayan) accompany him. Believing the upcoming college applications to be his real cause of worry, his mother Mrs. Menon (Juhi Chawla) asks Sid to keep his worries away and enjoy his final days in school. She then goes on to inform Sid that she will be away for the night, requesting Sid to take care of himself and his brother.

Despite Sid’s apprehensions regarding Adi’s true intentions behind the decision to accompany him to the football match, Adi manages to get an easy ticket to the football match, and Sid is forced to take Adi with him. On the way, however, Adi reveals his true intentions. Adi was eyeing to find a partner for next week’s prom from the group of senior girls who would be coming for the match. On seeing his smart brother use such tactics to find a date, Sid implores Adi to rather worry about his studies. The conversation quickly escalates and Adi finds out that even Sid wants to take the school’s most popular girl, Natasha Sabharwal aka Nat (Medha Rana), to the last prom of the school year.

Sid Becomes a Sensation in School

At the school, the football match between Sid’s school International School of Mumbai (ISM) and Global School begins, with support being extended from the audience gallery by Adi and Nat. Nat’s sister, Nitya aka Nits, is also among the audience as she was forced to accompany her sister in the absence of her parents at home. As Sid is daydreaming about Nats, he gets the news that he will be making his debut on the football pitch. An injury at a pivotal point in the match forces Sid’s coach to send Sid as a last-minute substitute. Surprisingly, Sid ends up scoring the winning goal, evoking applause and cheers from the supporting crowd. However, Sid quickly vanishes from the scene even without staying long enough to celebrate the win or his goal.

In the locker room, Sid is exposed to a disappointing ordeal when he hears his team members foul-mouthing him for being a studious and academic guy. Also, he overhears his team members motivating Kabir, the best player in the team, to ask Nat out for the prom. When Kabir and his friends realize that Sid has heard them, they try to compensate by inviting Sid to the “Friday Night Plan”. Miffed at being the butt of their jokes, Sid confronts and ridicules Kabir and his friends for being immature, rejecting the invite.

What is Friday Night Plan, After All?

Upon coming out of the locker room, Sid finds himself in an entirely different school than the one he has known. His schoolmates pour heaps of praise on the football star who hit a stunning goal against the Global School hooligans, their arch-rivals. Unfortunately, Sid struggles to handle all the attention being thrown his way and rushes to his English class. A relatable poem recited by Nat further deepens Sid’s fascination with her. During the school recess, Adi informs Sid about his newfound popularity and how he has become the talk of the town – something Sid finds odd as he’s been in the school for eight years without anybody ever noticing him.

Adi introduces Sid to the cool tradition of Friday Night Plan (FNP), a night full of joy and partying. Adi suggests that FNP would be the best opportunity to ask out Nat for the prom. Later, Sid meets up with his school counselor to discuss his college applications – something he continues to delay. Being a very important financial decision for his family, the college applications continue to worry Sid and he keeps delaying his applications.

On the way out of school, Sid finally decides to gather his courage and approach Nat for the prom but decides to steer away at the last moment. Fortunately, Nat notices Sid and asks him about FNP. Nat informs Sid that the party is being hosted at her place, and in a momentary decision, Sid confirms that he will be attending the party. In the excitement of the moment, he also agrees to bring his car when he sees an opportunity to go on a drive with Nat. After accompanying Sid to the football match, Adi manages to convince Sid to let him be by his side during the party. Thanks to the many ways in which Adi can help Sid in his endeavor of asking Nat for the prom, Sid agrees to take his irritating young brother to the Friday Night Plan but under the clause that Adi will cause no trouble.

Adi Comes Up With a Disastrous Plan

Against his mother’s orders, Sid takes out the car to impress Nat and sets out with Adi to join Kabir and his friends at a local restaurant where the pre-FNP party is going on. New to the FNP traditions, Sid gets a fair warning from his friends that the Global School guys may try to prank them before the party, especially after their loss. True to the warning, the ISM boys get pranked soon enough, leaving them thirsty for vengeance. Thanks to Adi who comes up with a brilliant plan, Sid is forced to drive around Kabir and his friends for the revenge mission against the GS boys. With Sid behind the wheel, Adi leads the mission of dumping eggs on the GS boys. Things take a turn for the worse when Adi ends up throwing an egg at a local cop. On getting caught red-handed, Adi and Sid drive away. On hitting a dead end, Sid and Adi decide to leave their car behind and escape on foot. Unfortunately for them, the cop finds the parked car.

Although Adi’s plans bring more applause and cheer their way, Sid gets worried about the car and returns to the location where he parked the car, only to find the car being taken away by the police. When Sid informs Adi about the crisis at hand, Adi implores his brother to come to the party and keep the worry about the car for another day. With no way out of the mess, Sid rushes to the party to confront Adi for his irresponsible behavior. Sid calls out Adi for being a coward and not owning up to his mistake. Surprisingly, Adi throws the blame back and calls out Sid for living a scared life, especially after the departure of their father. To fix the situation temporarily, Adi takes charge and pretends to inform his mother about the car being towed away by the police.

Taking a momentary break from worrying about the car, Sid decides to enjoy the party for the time being, fully welcoming the attention he’s been getting from Nat who’s clearly attracted to him. Sid enjoys the liberating spirit of the night and lets himself loose. Meanwhile, worried for his mother after being called out by Sid for being irresponsible, Adi calls her to check up on her, deepening her suspicion about the wellbeing of her sons. Mrs. Menon informs Adi that she will be reaching home within three hours, sending Adi into panic mode. Sid also gets shocked when he comes to know that the poem recited by Nat during the English class was written by her sister Nits, leaving him with the impression that he barely knows anything about Nat and putting an early end to his and Nat’s love story.

Friday Night Plan Ending Explained

A conversation with Nits gives Sid a new perspective about his brother who has been tirelessly working through the night to help build the best impression of Sid in front of Nat. In a heartfelt conversation, Sid thanks his younger brother for helping him see what he was missing. At the same time, Adi thanks Sid for taking care of their mother and apologizes for all the trouble he caused. After hugging it out, Sid asks Adi to go and enjoy the party, being unaware that their mother is already on her way back. When Adi gives Sid the news of their mother’s return, Sid suggests that they should wait for their mother before trying to fix the situation. However, being more concerned for his mother than before, Adi suggests that they should fix the problem first before spilling the truth in front of their mother.

Before leaving the party, Sid makes a final pit stop to thank Nits for her support in fixing the situation with his brother. He also spills the truth that his goal, earlier in the day, was a fluke. He got scared in the last moment and passed the ball, which got deflected into the goal. But the day’s events had taught Sid that he must not be scared to take the chance. Staying true to his newfound spirit, Sid asks out Nits for the prom. Despite not knowing each other much, Sid and Nits find some common ground, and Nits agree to the date. Not having much time to lose, Sid promises to call Nits the next day before leaving to rescue the car from the angry cop.

Does Sid and Adi’s Mother Find Out About the Car?

By the time Sid and Adi reach the police station in search of their car, the cop Suhas Pingale (Ninad Kamat) is at his wits’ end and ready to teach the kids a lesson. To play the big brother, Sid talks to the cop and tries to take the blame on himself. Misreading the situation, Sid tries to bribe the cop, but thankfully, Adi intervenes and saves the day. He spills the entire truth in front of the cop and confirms that Sid has no role to play in the mess. The cop, a benevolent man at heart, decides to forgive the two young kids and let them take their mom’s car back. Thanks to Adi, the two brothers manage to get their car back without much trouble. Before leaving the police station, Sid also confirms that he will be sending out his college applications soon.

At the end of Friday Night Plan, the two brothers reach home in time before their mother can arrive and find her sons gone. As the elder brother, Sid takes the mantle of explaining the entire story to Mrs. Menon. But just as Sid is about to lay a toned-down version of the story in front of his eager mom, Adi intervenes and takes up the role of the narrator – one who wouldn’t miss any detail when it comes to telling the story of the most exciting Friday night of their lives.
