Mismatched Season 1 Story Summary
Rishi Shekhawat (Rohit Saraf), a hopeless romantic, wishes to fall in love and get married and entrusts his grandmother to look for the perfect match for him. During the search, he comes across Dimple Ahuja (Prajakta Koli), a tomboyish, over-achieving and carefree girl, who unlike most girls her age, is not bothered about her looks, instead, is deeply interested in app development and gaming.
Dimple’s mother wants her daughter to get married and settle down as she readily accepts the offer made by Rishi’s grandmother. Although, she does not tell Dimple daughter about it.
Dimple is accepted into a summer program to learn app development at the Aravali Institute, Jaipur. On learning of this, Rishi too joins the same program to nurture his love for animation and also seek his “future-wife” Dimple. Although things set off to a bad start when Rishi gets a cold coffee thrown at himself when he approaches Dimple, who is unaware of the plot her mother constructs, out of the blue.
On an assignment, the students are instructed to go on a tour of Jaipur to find a moment that best represents their lives and capture it. This assignment would determine their future partners throughout the course of the semester. This venture proves to be a bonding experience not just for Rishi and Dimple, but also for their close friends Celina (Muskkan Jaferi) and Namrata (Devyani Shorey). However, unfortunately, Rishi and Dimple aren’t paired up together and have to make do with other team members. Moreover, Dimple is stuck with Harsh (Vihaan Samat), who has absolutely no interest in the course. To add to this, her professor Siddharth Sinha (Rannvijay Singha) too gives her a tough time with her assignment.
After days of chaos, the class decides to meet up for dinner at Bar Palladio. There, Dimple is bullied by the “bahubullies” who are a bunch of rich, ungrateful brats who detest Dimple for her pursuit of excellence. The bill at dinner turns out to be much more than Dimple could afford. This is when Rishi steps in. After wrapping up, they go on a walk where they get to know more about each other.
The “bahubullies” even manage to trick Zeenat Karim, a 41-year-old, out-of-place student into throwing a party at her house. Meanwhile, Rishi helps Dimple with her assignment back at the university. A sudden phone call from Namrata’s father make Rishi and Dimple go to the party to find Namrata. Here, Dimple realises her true feelings for Rishi as she begins to feel envious of his relationship with Namrata. Rishi later clears this doubt by telling Dimple that Namrata is a lesbian and is actually interested in Dimple’s roommate Celina.
The party also leads to Dimple’s greatest app idea which she calls “Anti-Sosh”, an app that will help unsocial people to navigate their way through a party. This is the only good idea that is not rejected by her professor Sid.
Rishi and Dimple end up spending a lot of time together working on the app and begin to grow closer. Rishi finally musters up the courage to ask her out on a date, but instead, Dimple lets him down by convincing him to just be friends and focus on their work. They then come to a mutual agreement to go on a “non-date”.
The “non-date” is started off by Namrata and Celina dolling up Dimple. Then, Rishi and Dimple go to a movie, which they soon get bored of and leave in the middle. Then follows dinner at a place of Dimple’s choosing. Coincidently, it is the same place that Rishi’s mother owns, but he decides to conceal this information from Dimple.
The date goes well, and Rishi and Dimple have their first kiss, which is interrupted by Rishi’s mother, and Dimple is finally made aware of the truth. She is crestfallen about being lied to and starts to avoid Rishi.
Mismatched Season 1 Ending Explained
Heartbroken, Dimple goes back to her dorm only to find her roommate Celina in an intimate position with a man. She then informs Celina about Namrata’s true feelings towards her, who is completely unaware of any such thing. Dimple makes Celina promise never to mention any of this to Namrata, as Rishi himself, swore her to secrecy about it.
Later that night, Dimple encounters one of the “bahubullies” Anmol Malhotra. Being angry at him and frustrated by everything going on around her, she makes a hasty decision to challenge him to the ‘League of Legends’ championship, a game in which both of them excel at. The terms of this challenge are that if Anmol loses, he would apologise to every woman he’s ever disrespected while playing, and if Dimple loses, she would have to scratch her assignment and do his instead.
To practice for the competition, the “bahubullies” meet at the home of Harsh who lives with his grandparents. Seeing as to how oily is the food they so lovingly made, the “bahubullies” order from outside. This leaves Harsh offended. Their delivery man is then revealed to be Celina, who is ashamed of her identity, and thus, asks them to keep it a secret.
Later, Celina who is already annoyed at the bahubullies confronts Namrata about her sexuality in front of the entire college and tells her that she is not into women. Namrata, feeling shocked and betrayed by Rishi for spilling her secret, ends her friendship with him. Meanwhile, the competition between Dimple and Anmol begins.
Do Rishi And Dimple End Up Together?
Dimple brutally defeats Anmol and goes to share the good news with Rishi, completely unaware of what has transpired in her absence. This is when she’s informed by Sid that her app has a copied prototype already being sold to companies for investment. This comes as a shock to Dimple considering only she and Rishi were aware of the access codes of the app.
This leads to an argument between Rishi and Dimple. Rishi is mad at Dimple for leaking Namrata’s secret, while Dimple is doubtful of Rishi for leaking her idea. Both of them realize how different their priorities in life are, how they indeed are “mismatched” and thus, they decide to part ways. To console a dejected Dimple, her team partner Harsh goes up to help, and the two end up kissing each other. In the end, it looks like Dimple has finally found her ideal match!
