Cyberpunk: Edgerunners follows the story of a young street kid who decides to become an edgerunner to survive in a violent dystopian future.
Netflix has released the first full-length trailer for its upcoming anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners after it released an official teaser on June 9, 2022. Ready for a September release, the anime series follows a street kid named Martinez, who becomes a mercenary outlaw, also known as a cyberpunk.
The official synopsis of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners reads as follows:
The series tells a standalone story about a street kid trying to survive in Night City — a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.
The 10-episode anime series is produced by CD Projekt Red and Cyberpunk 2077. Further, it is directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, and it features music by Akira Yamaoka, who’s best known as the music composer of several Silent Hill Games. The Tokyo-based animation company Studio Trigger is behind the upcoming anime series set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.

According to IGN, it has been confirmed that Zach Aguilar, the voice actor of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba’s Tanjiro Kamado, will voice the protagonist David Martinez in the English version.
The trailer of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners opens up with a display of the gruesome violence that envelops the Night City before we are introduced to the protagonist, David Martinez.
Next, David is seen being motivated to climb the corporate ladder and become an elite at the Arsaka Tower by his mother just before a man with a gun opens fire on the mother and son.
Having possibly lost his mother in the unfortunate incident, David becomes a mercenary outlaw – an edgerunner – joining a group of mercenaries that includes Maine, Kiwi, Dorio, Pilar, Rebecca, and finally Lucy, who catches the young recruit’s eye. Love blossoms between Lucy and David as David attempts to learn the tricks of the trade and transform into a ruthless mercenary.
In the next few shots, the trailer shows multiple potential villains of the series, with the majority of the focus resting on a corporate businessman who might have a deeper connection with David.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will premiere on Netflix in September 2022. The exact date is yet to be revealed.
