Sick Story Summary

Tyler (Joel Courtney) had just come back to his dorm after shopping when he received a weird text message from an unknown number. Tyler thought nothing of it; however, that night Tyler was killed in his dorm by an unknown, masked man after struggling for his life in vain.

Parker (Gideon Adlon) and Miri (Bethlehem Million) are best friends in college who decide to quarantine together in Parker’s parent’s lake house. It is situated in an isolated location away from the city, overlooking a beautiful lake view. The two girls are excited about their “stay-cation” and both of them post about their gateway on their Instagrams. Both think nothing of it and go about their trip, but this would soon be the biggest mistake of their lives.

The girls reach the lake house, start unpacking their stuff and go out to sit by the lake to relax. This is when parker receives a text from an unknown number which creeps out Parker and Miri. Parker blocks the number and moves on with her day. Both the girls are alone sitting in the living room at the night enjoying a glass of wine when they hear a truck pull up in the driveway behind their car. Not expecting anyone this late into the night, the girls decide to be cautious about opening the door to the man outside.

Miri calls out to the man to identify themself but gets no answer back. Parker then rushes to the kitchen to grab a knife for safety and open the door. Right as she opens the door, she sees DJ (Dylan Sprayberry), Parker’s ex who had come to the lake house because he missed Parker and wanted to be with her through her quarantine, unaware of Miri’s presence.

DJ is given a cold shoulder by Miri, but Parker suggests that DJ should leave first thing in the morning since it was too late for him to drive back to the city at this hour. Miri decides she should go to bed since it was late, leaving Parker and DJ alone. DJ confronts Parker regarding a boy that Parker had met at a party that she posted about on her Instagram.

Parker tells DJ that the boy’s name was Benji and that DJ should stay out of Parker’s personal life because he and Parker are no longer exclusive. DJ, hearing this is heartbroken and decides that it is best if he leaves first thing in the morning; for the moment, he decides to sleep on the couch.

DJ goes outside to his truck to grab his stuff from there, leaving the front door open. A man in a black ski mask slips in through the open door, unbeknownst to DJ or the girls. DJ then goes into the house, closes the door, and goes to sleep after placing his phone on the side table. Meanwhile, Parker goes to Miri’s room.

When everyone’s asleep, the man in the black ski mask takes away the phones of all three so that they do not call the police. However, DJ wakes up and reaches out for his phone, which he notices is not where he’d left it. He then hears music play over the speakers and quickly turns it off. DJ puts two and two together and concludes that there is someone else in the house apart from DJ, Parker, and Miri.

Parker on the other hand wakes up from the music too and thinks it is DJ who’s playing it over the speaker. She makes her way to the living room where DJ is supposed to be sleeping but as she nears the stairs, a pair of hands whips her away into a corner. In a panic, Parker tries to scream but is hushed by the hands covering her mouth. It is then that she sees it is DJ who had pulled her aside and DJ tells Parker that there is an intruder in the house. Parker panics but DJ tells her to calmingly climb down the balcony pillar and start the car, while DJ gets Miri from her room.

Parker obeys DJ and climbs down the balcony but as she reaches the car, she sees through the window that the masked man was already in Miri’s bedroom with a knife in his hand. Parker shouts Miri’s name which awakens Miri in the nick of time and she escapes the attack and makes her way to the front door where DJ intercepts the killer, and tells Miri and Parker to get to the car and drive away.

Parker however waits for DJ to come back and after much rustling from within, she sees the front door open. Thinking it is DJ, Parker steps out of the car and makes her way to the front door calling out DJ’s name but when Parker sees DJ at the door, she lets out a blood-curdling scream as the masked man had impaled DJ with a long skewer, killing him.

Parker runs back to the car and orders Miri to floor it and Miri does just that. She pulls the car out of the driveway and drives towards the main gate but the masked man catches up to them, which makes Miri lose control of the steering in panic and crash into a tree. The two run back to the house and into the attic as Parker shuts all the doors behind them, buying them enough time to escape through the attic window.

However, when Miri and Parker get on the ledge outside the attic window, making their way to the balcony, another man in the same black ski mask appears at the window. This makes Miri lose her balance and fall to the ground.

Sick Ending Explained

Parker goes into the house through the balcony and as she is on her way to Miri, a masked man catches her and tries to kill her. Parker, however, gets an edge in the fight and she bashes the head of the man with a vase, leaving him dead. Parker then runs to the ground to check up on Miri who she thinks is dead.

But surprisingly, Miri survived the fall and she tells Parker to leave her on the ground so that the killers think she’s dead, giving Miri enough time to go in the house and contact the cops. Parker runs towards the lake and gets on the dock, detaching it from the main dock so that she can rift to the other side of the lake and ask their neighbors for help.

The masked man however dives into the river and manages to injure Parker through the dock with a knife. Parker, with an injured hand, still manages to get to the neighbor’s house and ask the old man there for help but it gets too late as the masked man kills the neighbor before he could alert the police.

Do Parker And Miri Make It Alive?

Parker runs out of the house and into the highway where she sees a car approach her way. She asks the lady in the car for help but soon blacks out. When Parker comes to her senses, she finds herself back in her parent’s lake house and the lady in the car, Pamela (Jane Adams) is sitting in front of her with one of the masked men, who is her husband, Jason (Marc Menchaca).

Pamela explained to Parker that it was because of Parker that her youngest son, Benji, got COVID-19 and died in the hospital. Pamela also revealed that it was she and her family that killed Tyler too because that is how Parker contracted it. Parker denies having the virus which only agitates Pamela and she shows her the positivity test that Pamela had tested from Parker’s sample.

Meanwhile, Miri, who had hidden in the kitchen, manages to get her laptop so that she could send an email to the police. However, Miri fails in her attempt due to the slow Wi-Fi. Jason sees that the Wi-Fi light is blinking, prompting him to check up on Miri, who he thought died due to the fall.

When Jason leaves to check on Mir, Miri sneaks up from behind and knocks Pamela over, and hides with Parker. Jason comes back into the house and sees that his wife is unconscious, getting furious at the sight. He goes to look for the girls, but the girls outsmart him and push him off the stairs, killing him instantly. The girls then proceed to run to the barn nearby which shelters a jeep that the girls can use to escape.

As Miri tries to start the jeep, Pamela comes in and attacks Parker with an axe. After a long struggle, Parker gets her hands on a container with fuel in it and pours it over Pamela, and sets her on fire. Pamela runs into the street and falls to the ground dead as the police finally arrive. The girls look at the police with a sigh of relief, knowing they’ve made it out of the nightmare alive.
