The Lost Lotteries Story Summary
Tay (Kanaphan Puitrakul), a student, lives with his mother, Ms. Toi. The two live a simple day-to-day lifestyle, barely making enough to sustain their living. After Tay’s father walked out on his pregnant mom, Toi sold lottery tickets as a way of earning, and just when they began doing well for themselves, she met with an accident, after which Tay had to take over the ticket selling instead.
One day when Tay was taking a break from selling the tickets, Ms. Toi called her son to inform him to save the ticket number with the suffix 69 as it would be lucky. He stashes away four tickets for the customers and one for himself.
When Tay gets home for the day, he sees his home in disarray and two goons threatening his mom to pay back the money she owes to the mafia boss, Mr. Chye. Tay tries to fight the goons, but to his disadvantage, he gets beaten up and the lottery tray is snatched from him.
The following day, the results of the lottery are announced and as predicted by Ms. Toi, the ticket with the suffix 69 wins the lottery prize worth six million Baht. Ms. Toi, excited about their fate finally changing for the better, tells Tay about the good news, but when Tay informs her that the goons have taken away the tray, which contained the winning tickets. Ms. Toi panics as she anticipates meeting the customers who bought the winning tickets.
Wen, Khung, Zoe, and Beat, the four customers who bought those tickets, go to Tay’s house only to be disappointed by the news of their winning lotteries getting stolen. Wen is a struggling actor who wants the money to become rich and famous; Khung is a toilet cleaner salesman who aspires to become a boxing champion; Zoe is an orphan salesgirl who has a younger brother dependent on her, and Beat is a locksmith whose father is in a critical state in the hospital due to a hit-and-run case involving a rich man.
The four, along with Tay and Ms. Toi plan on getting the tickets back from Mr. Chye. The plan is that Wen, pretending to be a big shot match dealer, fixes Khung’s fight with one of Mr. Chye’s fighters as a distraction while Zoe seduces one of the goons, Mee, to retrieve the keys to the safe where the tray is hidden.
The Lost Lotteries Ending Explained
Zoe successfully gets the key from the goon, Mee, and hands it to Tay. Tay and Beat take the keys and make their way to the safe where the lottery tray is hidden, but upon reaching the safe, they discover it empty. One of the goons had stolen the lottery tray in hopes to sell it for money, but the group catch up to him and acquire the tray.
Meanwhile, the assassin Sek who works for Mr. Chye finds out about the plan for the heist, and right when five were about to escape, holds them at gunpoint, demanding the tray back. But Tay, having anticipated a failure, had already executed his plan B of blowing up the entire factory.
The five quickly escape from the factory to get to their next location where they are supposed to gather their stuff and run away. But when they get there, Sek and Mr. Chye, who survived the blast, capture Ms. Toi as a hostage and only promise to release her in exchange for the winning tickets. The five and Sek get into a fight and a gunshot is heard and Ms. Toi falls to the ground.
What Happened To The Lottery Tickets?
Tay, foreseeing the possibility of such an instance, had hired help from a rival gang member who saves them from Sek at the last minute and as payment takes the lottery tickets. Ms. Toi is taken to the hospital, and she luckily survives.
A few days pass since all the ruckus and the five come to their senses, realizing that 6 million Baht was not worth risking their lives. When they get ready to leave on their respective ways, they see a rooster in the back of the truck which they stole from Mr. Chye. The rooster was a famous fighting rooster with a prize of 8 million Baht fixed for the one who would return it to the owners.
Having cashed the eight million, the five begin to pursue their dreams. While Tay, Wen, Khung, and Zoe use the money for their benefit, Beat becomes the unlucky one as the rich man who killed his father walks away easily. So, the five team up once again to bring the man to justice by doing what they do best – a heist.
The Lost Lotteries is now streaming on Netflix.
