The Last of Us follows the unlikely pair of Joel and Ellie as they navigate a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies and gruesome killers on the loose.
HBO Max’s newest upcoming drama series is adapted from the cult 2013 action-adventure video game The Last of Us, published by Sony Computer Entertainment and video game developer Naughty Dog. The famous video game is translated into the survival drama series as fans of the game get an opportunity to witness their video game come to life.
The teaser trailer paints a grim picture of a post-apocalyptic world in shambles. The outbreak of a lethal fungus transforming humans into monstrous zombies ushers a pandemic with dangerous consequences; as a result, zombies spread over America, threatening the safety and security of millions.
The Last of Us follows the teenager Ellie and smuggler Joel as they navigate their way through their homeland threatened by the zombies. Ellie and Joel tread dangerous waters in their trek towards safety as they battle for survival against the threatening creatures while simultaneously attempting to evade the deadly fungus.
The official synopsis of The Last of Us reads:
“Joel and Ellie, a pair connected through the harshness of the world they live in, are forced to endure brutal circumstances and ruthless killers on a trek across post-pandemic America.”
The 10-episode survival drama series will feature The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey of Game of Thrones fame in the leading roles of Joel and Ellie. The series will also star Gabriel Luna, Nick Offerman, Merle Dandridge, Jeffrey Pierce, Anna Torv, and Murray Bartlett.
The upcoming HBO Max series is created by Craig Mazin, creator of the award-winning Chernobyl series and acclaimed video game creator Neil Druckmann.
The Last of Us will premiere on HBO Max in 2023.
