The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power reveals new character posters

Set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, The Rings of Power will cover major events from Middle-earth’s Second Age.

The hype for the much-awaited addition to Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings world has not been settling down for quite a time. With the September 2 release date nearing, the anticipation has been brewing and the makers have decided to add to it by releasing brand new character posters featuring some returning characters from the movie trilogy as well as some brand new ones.

With a second season already green-lit, the Prime Video marquee series will consist of 8 episodes. The series was initially announced in 2017 before going into production in 2020. Much like the popular film series, the series is also shot in New Zealand.

The Rings of Power showrunners include J.D. Payne and Patrick Mckay with the writing being handled by Gennifer Hutchinson and Helen Shang. The Doctor Who director Wayne Che Yip has directed the most number of episodes with J.A. Bayona and Charlotte Brändström directing two episodes each.

The cast includes Charles Edwards, Will Fletcher, Amelie Child-Villiers, Beau Cassidy, Ian Blackburn, Kip Chapman, Anthony Crum, Maxine Cunliffe, Trystan Gravelle, Peter Mullen, Simon Merrells, and Lloyd Owens, among others.

While some returning characters such as Elron, played by Hugo Weaving in the movie, and Celebrimbor, played by Charles Edwards, have been teased, a whole bunch of new characters are also introduced.

With Amazon spending $250 million only for the rights for the series and the visuals looking promising, the character posters reveal more about the aesthetics of the upcoming series that has been made without the involvement of Peter Jackson, the director who pushed the series to worldwide glory in the early 2000s.
