Based on Sandhya Menon’s best-selling rom-com “When Dimple Met Rishi”, Mismatched Season 2 follows the ups and downs in the relationship between Dimple Ahuja and Rishi Singh Shekhawat.
The series beautifully tackles the pandemonium that is teenage life. Alongside giving the fans what they want – the love story of Dimple and Rishi, the series also manages to highlight and raise awareness about other important themes. Broken friendships, newfound love, academic stress, and identity crisis form the crux of Season 2 of Mismatched. While Dimple seems to have lost faith in her future in app development, Rishi has lost faith in his ability to fall in love.
The Story
After their break-up the night before, Dimple and Rishi must learn to live without each other.
The team partners, Dimple and Harsh, get on a mission to find the person behind the leak of their app ‘Anti-Sosh’. Spending more time together to look for the culprit and come up with a new app idea, Dimple and Harsh grow close.
Meanwhile, Rishi too starts to develop feelings for his mother’s wedding photographer Sunny (Sanjana Sarathy). Both Dimple and Rishi encounter each other in various instances and begin to feel jealous. However, upon realizing that their love is fated, Dimple and Rishi get back together and things finally start getting back on track.
But, near the end of the term, the students must also start thinking about their futures. With their lives hanging in the balance, everyone, including Dimple and Rishi, is faced with a choice that could determine the course forward.
Reasons To Stream
The series examines not only just trivial college relationships but also important issues that concern most teenagers. The subject of body image is explored through the character of Simran, and mental health awareness is raised through Dimple’s panic attacks and Anmol’s counseling sessions. Tropes of sexuality and identity too are represented through the characters of Namrata, Ayesha, and Celina.
The show is an apt representation of the young generation, their problems, and the way they deal with them. The characterization helps make the storyline relatable for the audience.
Additionally, Prajakta Koli delivers a mesmerizing performance as Dimple, managing to showcase the character’s intricacies and reflecting her inner battles. She manages to shine through as the female protagonist, providing the viewers with a likeable character to relate with.
Additionally, the series treats the supporting characters as important additions to the plot, giving each of them an equally important storyline. It also manages to give every character a conclusive ending, as no side plots go unacknowledged in the end.
Reasons To Skip
While the season concludes with an apt ending leaving the viewers anticipating more, it falls flat with its predictable finale. The lazy story-writing leading up to the end makes it foreseeable, leaving very little to the imagination.
Additionally, the dialogues and their execution which claim to be catering to ‘Gen-Z’, prove to be superficial and frivolous. The characters and their overuse of slang and abbreviations almost become caricatures of students their age.
Furthermore, the overused enemies-to-lovers and love-triangle tropes do not seem to help Mismatched’s case. Instead, it just leaves the viewers confused and dissatisfied.
The Verdict
Mismatched Season 2 delivers what it promised in the beginning – a continuation of a wholesome love story – that must go against all odds to flourish. With plenty of drama, emotion, and anticipation, Mismatched Season 2 leaves the viewers excited for more.
