Infiesto Ending Explained: Who Is The Prophet?

Set against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic, Infiesto follows the journey of two detectives who discover a sinister crime while solving a missing-person case.

Infiesto is set during the early days of the coronavirus when Spain is under a lockdown. Two detectives find a girl who had been missing for three days, leading to the hunt for The Prophet. Written and directed by Patxi Amezcua, Infiesto stars actors Isak Férriz and Iria del Río.

Infiesto Story Summary

Two police officers, Ramos and Altuna, find a missing woman. The woman is bruised in several places and is carrying a straw doll. The woman is hospitalized and hence, is unable to speak. She had been missing for the past three days and the police tried to find suspects. Detective Garcia and Castro are assigned the case.

The two detectives meet officers Ramos and Altuna for clues. They inform them that the missing woman is from the nearby mining town of Infiesto. With this information, the two detectives let the woman’s mother know about her daughter’s well-being. The hunt for the culprit starts.

The first suspect is the woman’s ex-stepfather but there are no clues against him. The next suspect is Manuel Gomez, a man who had recently tried to kidnap a girl; he is a dog killer. After a conversation with him, he doesn’t seem connected to the case. On their way back from Gomez’s place, the detectives get a call that informs them that there is a dog bite on the missing girl’s leg and traces of some acid have been found on her nail bed. The acids directly links to the acids found in Gomez’s stable.

Garcia and Castro rush back to the stable only to find that Gomez had escaped. They call for backup and the hunt for Gomez begins. The police find him in the woods but before he can give out any information, he shoots himself but not before screaming “This is only the beginning”.

Upon searching his place, the police find secret rooms with locks, blood splashes, straw dolls, and various photos of different-sized dogs.

The police learn about Gomez’s hunting partner, also known as ‘Demon’, from his cousin. So, they track down Demon to his van but soon realize that he has escaped and there is a ticking bomb attached to the van.

After the van blows up, the police search for evidence. They find photographs of multiple missing people. Straw dolls and white pieces of clothes are also found throughout the place. Another picture of a group of 10-12 people along with Demon and Gomez is also found. All the evidence hints towards some form of ritualistic practice.

The Demon’s brother informs the police about a hermitage in the mountains upon questioning. They do find him hiding in the hermitage but get a hold of him only after a shootout. Though they take him into custody, the man remains adamant and doesn’t spill out anything. He does admit that he and Gomez did the kidnappings. He insists that it is for the greater good and the world is about to end. Demon also reveals that they are working for The Prophet who is saving humanity through sacrifices. But despite being forced multiple times, he doesn’t give out the Prophet’s name.

Further investigation reveals that the rituals are connected to European Celtic mythology and the missing people were sacrifices to the God of the storm, Taranis.

The pattern of the kidnappings discloses a deadly pattern. A person goes missing every 3 months, marking the solstice and equinox. According to that pattern, the next sacrifice should occur in the next forty-eight hours.

On a more personal side, the world is suffering from the coronavirus and the detectives’ personal lives have not gone untouched by this. Garcia’s mother passes away due to coronavirus and Castro’s boyfriend is fighting for his life in the ICU.

Just as anticipated, another woman goes missing. Garcia goes out of his way and breaks multiple rules to get some information about the missing woman. He even ends up shooting Demon. Rather than getting any clues, Garcia ends up being suspended.

Infiesto Ending Explained

Along with the group photograph that they had found during the investigation, Garcia starts asking around for information. A man in the picture is identified by police officer Ramos who had found the missing woman.

He informs that the man was called The Prophet by the kids and that he used to live near the mines. He also lets him know that it had been a while since he heard about him. Ramos offers to take Garcia to the last location he knows that The Prophet called his home.

From the very first glance, it seems that they are indeed at the right place as they spot the car of the woman who recently went missing. Inside the home, they find a skeleton of a person, hinting that it had been years since the person must have died.

Will The Prophet get caught?

At the police station, Castro is contacted by a woman named Lydia Wig who claims to have been a part of The Prophet’s cult but escaped when he tried to perform a ritual on her. She reveals that The Prophet was a man from Infiesto named Ramos. She quickly calls Garcia and warns him about his identity.

Shortly after, Castro arrives at Ramos’s place with the team. But they discover a dead Garcia who has been shot by Ramos. She follows Ramos to the mines and walks along the long tunnels alone. Screams of a woman can be heard, indicating that the missing woman is not dead yet. Ramos is urgently preparing for the ritual as the detective is after him.

A gunfight breaks down between the two, and Castro successfully saves the woman by killing Ramos. In the end, an injured Castro visits her boyfriend in the hospital who is now recovering.
